Early Years Careers

A career in early years is unique, rewarding and full of variety – no two days are ever the same.

You could work in a nursery or pre-school as a nursery assistant, room leader or early years teacher.

Career progression could then lead to managing a nursery, starting your own childminding business, or specialising in supporting children with additional needs.

If you’re after part-time work or looking to gain experience, there are also opportunities to work in breakfast or after school clubs.
Whether you’re leaving school or considering your next steps after college, there are many ways to kickstart your early years career:
T Level in Education and Early Years – Equivalent to three A levels, this course mixes classroom learning with an industry placement, giving you the skills and qualification needed to move into a role straight after college.

Early years apprenticeships (Level 2 and Level 3) – Jump straight in with no prior experience needed. You’ll gain hands-on experience and a recognised qualification, all while earning a salary.

Early Years Degrees – Study full-time for a degree in an early childhood-related subject and gain a qualification to become an early years teacher.
