Our people are behind everything we do

Openreach Limited runs the UK’s digital network.  We’re the people who connect homes, schools, hospitals, libraries, businesses – large and small, broadcasters and governments to the world. It’s our mission to build the best possible network with the highest quality of service, and make sure that everyone in the UK can be connected.  We’re a wholly owned subsidiary of BT Group and our customers are the 650+ communications providers who sell phone, broadband and Ethernet services to homes and businesses.

Openreach is made up of four divisions – service delivery, fibre and network delivery, strategic infrastructure development, and headquarters.

Our 35,000 people are hugely experienced, resourceful and innovative. They tackle complicated engineering problems – from coordinating works with councils, highways agencies, energy suppliers and landowners, to installing and maintaining the complex kit that provides fibre broadband services. They go the extra mile and take on any challenge to build a better, faster and more affordable network that helps our customers stay connected.

More about Openreach's four divisions

Fibre and network delivery

Strategic infrastructure development

This team looks after our network. You’ve probably seen them working at the side of the road or at the top of telephone poles.

The team did 106,645 installations and 81,895 repairs each week from 1 April 2018 – 31 March 2019. That’s over 28,660 jobs every day and 9.8 million in 2018/19.

What do they do?

Our service delivery team looks after our network. You’ve probably seen them working at the side of the road or at the top of telephone poles. It’s their job to deliver the superfast connectivity that’s the backbone of our business. So they spend their time installing and repairing the phone and broadband lines that connect homes and businesses all over the country – whatever the weather.

This team builds our fibre network across the UK. They’re everywhere, in whatever environment.

10,900 people with 220,000 years’ experience make up the fibre and network delivery team. They’re working on getting ultrafast broadband to four million addresses by March 2021.

What do they do?

This team builds our network across the UK. They’re everywhere, in whatever environment. That could be under roads in city streets, across water in Welsh valleys or over mountains in the Scottish Highlands. And they build and maintain that network for everyone – families, schools, villages, towns, hospitals, cities, stadiums, small businesses and big businesses.

This team drives strategic programmes and develops new business.

640 Openreach people make up the strategic infrastructure development team. Each one works hard to get ultrafast broadband speeds across the UK.

What do they do?

In a nutshell, if anyone wants to move, alter or add to our existing infrastructure they come to this team. They help drive our Fibre First ambitions by building and strengthening our strategic and commercial relationships with Government, local authorities, developers and industry bodies. This helps to drive strategic programmes at pace – and develop new business.
